Reuters has reported that Apple’s iPhone is currently the top searched term on the internet.
The term “iPhone” has surpassed—and has been more popular—than major news events, celebrities and pop stars, this year, according to Yahoo!.
“This is the first time since 2002 that we have had a gadget at number one, which is an iPhone,” Vera Chan, Web trend analyst at Yahoo!, said.
“Even though the product has been around for four years, it just became such a major news story.”
In 2002, the gadget that topped the list was PlayStation2.
The second most-searched term was “Casey Anthony”, who was the woman ‘found innocent’ of the murder of her daughter in a highly-publicized trial.
Celebrities Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry and Jennifer Lopez come in at top five, while Lindsay Lohan took the sixth spot. “American Idol” came in seventh place, and actress Jennifer Aniston came in eighth place.
Other news that made the top 10 were the Japan earthquake and Osama bin Laden, who was killed in Pakistan earlier this year.
Pop princess Britney Spears, who was number one for four consecutive years, didn’t even make the cut for top 10 this year.
